2020 was a long year. We were in a bubble together, going into our shared studio when it was allowed.
There were no art shows to work towards, nothing to keep us focussed on the future. So we decided we needed a project to keep us sane.
That’s when our 12 Days of Christmas window was born.
We couldn’t bring people in to our studio, so maybe we could bring the inside out. Let’s build a Christmas window that everyone can just come and look at.
Our theme was the 12 Days of Christmas song. You know, the one with partridges in pear trees and gold rings?
The ideas for some of the 12 days came to us really quickly, while others took much more thought. Each one had to be recognizable.
Each of the images was full of humour, and we invested a lot of ourselves in each character we created.
We experimented with the idea of painting with light. We both have a love of coloured lights, it was an easy choice.
Most of the experimenting with the light came from trying to make it more dynamic and changeable. All the movement in the window would come from this changing light
We have an giant window on our ground floor gallery, perfect for a Christmas window.
People could park in front of it if they wanted to stay safe in their cars, or come out for a closer look.
It felt amazing to be able to share something uplifting in the run up to that first Christmas in lockdown. Something fun and free. A gift to our friends and our followers.
